more likely to do with the quality of the CD player vs lack of quality of other digital player (MP3/iPod/laptop).

And I do have a high end audiophile home system (Naim audio). My disc player is crazy good, almost analog sounding. I also have a home recording studio, most recordings are wav format, real HD music, but a huge data gobble. Still the fancy ass CD player trumps it for dynamics, stereo separation, quickness of response. The CD device has only one function - to play music.
